I am Rita. Guardian of the Spirit Forest.
When I was little, I was apparently abandoned at the entrance of this forest and taken in by Master. I don’t remember much from right after I was picked up.

After Master took me in, I learned magic directly from Master, who was the Guardian, and now I’ve inherited the Guardian’s position.

While I was being taught magic, Master taught me a lot of things. Not magic—things like where Master came from.
Master was apparently born and raised in a place called Japan, in a world called Earth. Died there, and was called to this world by the spirit of the World Tree, or something.
Maybe that’s why the stories of home I heard from Master were of a very mysterious world.

And as a so-called perk of reincarnation, Master had a connection to that world.
Streaming magic, he called it. If you use it, you can interact with Master’s homeland. A really amazing spell. At first I couldn’t even imagine what kind of magic it was, but these days I’m used to it.

Once Master handed over the Guardian’s qualifications, and the streaming magic while he was at it, he left the forest, saying that since it was a rare isekai he might as well go look around. Since then, I’ve been spending my time alone.

But I’m not lonely. If I use the magic I inherited from Master, I can talk with all kinds of people. Maybe he gave me this magic so I wouldn’t be lonely.
Spending my days at an easy pace in the forest, talking with people from another world now and then.
I thought it. I went and thought it. I want to go to that world.

I mean, of course I’m curious. A world with no magic, but incredibly convenient thanks to something called science. On top of that, apparently there’s lots of delicious food.
The thing called curry rice that Master made for me was really good. Even that, apparently, is pretty inferior compared to Japan’s.
I wanted to eat delicious food. I wanted to eat curry rice. And so I decided to look for Earth.

And today.

“Look, Spirit-sama. I made magic.”

When I showed the Great Spirit of the World Tree the magic circle I’d drawn on paper, she was well and truly shocked.

“You’re kidding…? You really made it?”
“I made it.”
“Good grief…”

The Great Spirit is a mysterious, translucent person. Her form is that of humanfolk, but she is always floating in the air, and yet she cannot leave the World Tree. The long hair that reaches her ankles, her eyes, and her simple clothes are all green. That’s just how she is, apparently.
That Great Spirit was holding her head as she looked at my magic circle.

“I can’t believe it. How can you even make this. Just analyzing my magic is abnormal enough, frankly…”
“I’m flattered.”
“That was not praise.”

The Great Spirit let out a big sigh, then shook her head as if giving up, with a well, fine. I think that’s a little mean.

“So, Rita. What do you intend to do?”
“Before that, from your point of view, Spirit-sama, does this magic look like it’ll actually work?”

I handed her the paper with the magic circle, and the Great Spirit started staring at it. It would be rude to interrupt, so I decided to wait in silence.
What should I do when I go to Earth. Of course I want to eat curry rice, but there should be lots of other delicious things too, and manga and games and that kind of thing sound interesting as well.
Ah, right. Anime. I want to watch anime. I want to watch other people’s streams too, that thing they talk about. Ahh, there’s too much I want to do, it’s a problem. I’m so, so excited!

“Rita. Are you listening?”
“I was not.”
“I thought not. You were grinning with a terribly creepy smile.”
“………… I’ll be careful.”
“Please do.”

I’ll have you know I am this world’s only Guardian. I think I have a thing called dignity.

“Hm? What meaning is there in dignity no one ever sees…?”
“Are we done with the magic?”
“Ah, sorry. I’m listening.”

Close one. Whether I need dignity can wait. Besides, on the Earth I’m about to go to, a lot of people will be looking at me. As the representative of an alien, I want to look cool.

“As for this magic, to put the conclusion simply, it will work without issue.”
“Yes! Then I’ll go right—”
“However, there are conditions.”
“Conditions?”
“Do not leave things from here over there and come back, and conversely, do not bring things from there over here.”

Hmm… So eating my way around is fine, then. Maybe she wants me to avoid buying souvenirs and bringing them back.

“Huh? But I’m getting sweets from the stream.”
“As long as you don’t take them out of the forest, it’s fine. To be precise, there is no problem so long as they do not pass into the hands of this world’s humanfolk.”

Ah, I see. Well, nothing good would come of that.
This planet is a rich one with plenty of green and water too, but even so, the environments are completely different. Something harmless to me might be deadly poison to people over there. Maybe. And the reverse, too.
It’s necessary to prevent accidents like that, and even without accidents, if they started investigating it, that could turn into a huge mess too. It’s something they don’t have over there.

“Got it. I’ll be careful.”
“Yes. You work well for us on a regular basis. Think of it as a vacation, and go enjoy yourself.”
“Yeah. Anything else I should watch out for?”

When I asked that, the Great Spirit tipped her gaze up a little in a thinking pose, but—

“Nothing… in particular, I suppose… You may do as you like. You could even be a little naughty. Whatever happens on that planet has nothing to do with me, after all.”
“…………”

Yeah. Okay. Let’s pretend I didn’t hear that.
Aware that my smile was twitching just a little, I went back to my house.
