The night of the royal capital Romulus is dark.
Moonlight and the faint glow of streetlamps light the town.
On a dim, hazy night road, there was a young woman.

A hint of liquor hung about her. She walked with unsteady, uncertain steps.
Now and then she grinned for no reason. She was drunk, most likely.

A low man’s voice, faintly heard.
The sudden voice startled the woman; she stopped.

The man’s voice came from the dark of a building’s shadow.
“Walking alone this late at night, you might meet with something dangerous…”
A man slithered out of the shadow.
Black cloak and hat: a suspicious air.
The drunk woman, however, was bold.
“Haa? What? Aren’t you the dangerous one here?”
She kicked a stone with a clack.
The stone traced an arc—
“Hihihih…”
It slipped clean through the man’s body and rolled away to the other side of the road.
“…What… was that…?”
“You appear to be frightened… hihih.”
The man laughed unpleasantly.
The next instant, his body scattered like mist.
As if he had melted into the night dark.
“No way!? Where did you go?”
“…Behind you…”
The woman spun in a panic.
The suspicious man from before stood right in front of her.
“You smell delicious…”
He grinned and breathed out, “Haa.”
From his open mouth, two sharp fangs showed.
“No… ugh!?”
There was no time even to scream.
The man covered her and pinned her down in an instant.
Two fangs sank into the unmoving woman’s neck.
“Ah… some… one…”
The woman’s healthy color drained to white.
The blood left her; she crumpled on the spot.
Bright red blood dripped from the man’s mouth.
“Hihihih… that was tasty…”
Leaving the woman there, the man vanished into the night dark.
