A town lined with so many buildings. The roads are paved in cobblestone, and wagons look like they’d run easy. A lot of people coming and going, chatter and kids’ energetic voices, overflowing with life.
Yeah. Amazing. A different amazing from Japan. I might like this one better.

‘I’m Japan after all, yeah’
‘As long as there’s a PC and the net, anywhere is fine’
‘I can’t even picture life without a PC or a phone. Absolutely not’
‘Are there nothing but wrecks here?’
‘The fact you’re looking at this means you’re the same, you know’

PCs are convenient. I’ve gotten to touch the one Mami has a little, and I thought it was amazing.
I mean, you just do a little of something called searching and you get all kinds of information. Convenient doesn’t even cover it. According to Mami there’s also lies and wrong information so picking and choosing is a pain, but that’s the same even without a PC.

I want one too, a PC. Well, even if I got a PC I probably couldn’t use it in the forest. I couldn’t connect to that thing called the internet to begin with.
Thinking about that, I follow Mireille. Still, it’s a lively town. Everyone looks like they’re having fun. There are lots of shops too, so I want to stop by later.

“This is your first large town, Rita?”
“Mm… First settlement of people in this world.”
“What countryside is it really…?”

A lovely forest surrounded by giant trees and magic beasts. Besides me, nobody lives there.

“We’ve arrived. This is the guild.”

Mireille stopped all of a sudden and said that.
The building she showed me is a size larger than the others. Specifically: most are two stories, with a few three-story ones here and there, and this one alone is four stories.
Lots of people going in and out, and those people are all armor or robes, obvious adventurers. I see, this is the guild.

“Ohh…”

‘Crap, it’s too much like the image, crap lol’
‘This is… the isekai home base…!’
‘What even is an isekai home base lol’

It looks a lot like the ones you sometimes see in Japanese manga. When it’s this similar, I start thinking someone actually went from this planet to Japan or wherever and spread it.
I can’t say there isn’t. Master’s a real example.

“Rita?”
“Mm. Coming.”

I follow Mireille into the guild.
Inside, it was a wide room. On the left a bulletin-board-looking thing is set up, with lots of small papers stuck to it. At the back of the room is a counter, and about three people were sitting behind it.

That’s reception, maybe. Putting in requests, taking them, getting rewards. I might want to try it a little.
There are also a few round tables, and a lot of people chatting.
Stairs on both sides of the counter. I wonder what’s on the second floor and up. If I asked, would they tell me. Maybe not.

“Rita, I will go speak with the branch chief a little. I will be right back.”
“Ah, yes. Ryo.”
“Ryo…?”
“That’s understood.”

‘Hey who taught Rita-chan a weird word’
‘It’s all of us, don’t make us say it, it’s embarrassing’
‘Master’s definitely going to get mad about this…’

I see Mireille off as she goes up the stairs. She seems famous; on the way to the stairs a lot of people talked to her. As expected of the Witch of Scorching Flame. This is what an epithet-holder is.

“Cool.”

‘Ah, yes’
‘Coooool’

I got kind of really carried along.
What do I do after this. Mireille said she’d be right back, but just waiting… I feel like I’m getting glances here and there.

“You there, what’s the matter?”

A voice like that was suddenly called from the counter. Looking, one of the receptionists was looking at me and beckoning.
They called me, so I’ll go.
The glances I can feel here and there bother me, but I walk to the counter. When I get in front of her, the receptionist smiles.

“Hello. Business with the guild? Want to put in a request? Or are you lost?”
“Hmm…”

Now. What do I do.

‘Register!’
‘Do the tropes, the tropes!’
‘Get told a brat like you registering is a joke!’
‘Or the mana measurement, like, unbelievable! What amazing mana!’

Everyone’s saying whatever they want, but registering seems to be the same opinion for all of them. Then, yeah. I’ll register.

“I want to register. I want to become an adventurer.”
“Eh.”

The receptionist’s eyes go round in surprise. She looks somehow troubled.

“Um… Adventuring has a lot of dangerous work too. I don’t know what happened, but wouldn’t it be better to look for another job? I can introduce you somewhere?”
“That’s all right. Adventurer is fine.”
“Eeh…”

I can really feel that she wants to refuse. But this isn’t that she dislikes me so much as she’s worried about me. I think she’s a good person.
While the receptionist is hesitating, this time a voice from right behind me.

“Hey. Missy, you want to be an adventurer?”

I turn around. A muscle-packed old guy. A very scary face, staring me down.

‘TROPE INCOMIIING!’
‘The baptism of a newbie, I know this!’
‘Punch him out, Rita-chan!’

Isn’t that too much bloodlust?
While I was confused by the viewers’ comments, the old guy gently took both my shoulders, and—

“I won’t tell you anything bad. Don’t.”
“Eh.”

‘Eh’
‘Oh?’

“Listen. Being an adventurer isn’t fun work. To put it bluntly, it’s the dumping ground for people who can’t do a proper job. So you’re always next door to dying. For example…”

What started from there was the old guy’s hardship stories. What should have been simple herb gathering and they got attacked by a big magic beast, they went to subjugate goblins and the nest was huge and they almost died, stories like that.
Partway through people besides the old guy joined in, an older guy with a scar on his face, an older girl in a mage’s robe, a lot of them gathered. And everyone tells me to quit being an adventurer.
Yeah. Somehow, different from what I expected. In manga and such, they pick a fight and attack you.

“Mm? What’s wrong, missy.”
“Mm… Um… I heard from someone I know that at registration you get attacked, like…”

When I put it a little vaguely, the old guys went blank for an instant, then awkwardly looked away.

“Well, yeah. We do that too, actually…”
“Look, missy. Picking a fight with a kid like you on a pretext is too much of a piece of shit as a human being…”
“You would definitely get expelled from the guild.”

An irrefutable sound argument.
