I teleport near the town, go through the gate, and to the guild. When I go to reception they show us to the guildmaster’s room right away.
And the guildmaster,

“I thought you would finish quickly, but I didn’t think it would be in a day…”

murmurs in a vanishing voice while checking the documents Mireille submitted.

‘Right?’
‘When Rita-chan came in they even asked if you’d forgotten something lol’
‘The stunned face when they heard it was a request report was in a sense the best’

The viewers have good taste. In a bad way, of course.
While Celis checks in silence, Mireille and I wait, leisurely drinking the juice they brought out. Compared to Japanese juice the sweetness is held back, but this is fine in its own way, I think.
A little after we finish the juice, Celis seems to have finished reading too. She sets the documents on the table and holds her head.

“I have to report this upward…?”
“Mm… Was there a problem? Not having credibility is, well, it can’t be helped…”
“Ah, no. That’s not a problem. That’s why I had the two of you go.”

Survey-type requests apparently have to be taken by two or more people no matter what. To prevent fraud like writing convenient lies, they say. So they aren’t suspicious from the point we came back together, but…

“Rita, you really live in a forest like that…”

This way of putting it.

‘A forest like that lol’
‘But I get wanting to say it lol’
‘It’s like the peak of an inhuman demon-realm of a forest…’

The viewers are awful too. I can’t deny it, though.

“Then with this the request is complete, and here, the reward.”

Saying that, the guildmaster who collected the documents sets two heavy-looking cloth bags on the table. Mireille takes one first, nods, and puts it in the Item Box.
I take a bag too and look inside. Um… Packed with gold coins. The count, I honestly don’t really know. Mireille put it in the Item Box without checking much, but is it something you can tell right away?

‘Maybe you can tell if you gain experience?’
‘No way, this is too much even then’

I look at Mireille. Our eyes meet for some reason, and Mireille smiles a little.

“Including myself, many S-ranks are not short on money, so more often we do not check. But if you are curious I think it is fine to check. They should wait that much.”

Next I look at the guildmaster. She nods like that’s correct.

“But the guild will not do something that betrays an S-rank’s trust either. Unless they are quite the fool, they should not cheat.”
“Mm… I see.”

That might be so. If Mireille made a fuss, rumors would spread right away. Then they’d lose trust from adventurers and townspeople and have no work, maybe?
Thinking that, cheating would be the weirder one.

“Then, with this, the Spirit Forest ecological survey is complete. Thank you, both of you.”

The guildmaster bows, so I hurriedly bow too. Mireille bows just a little.
Hmm… So this request is over. How do I put it, yeah…

“Boring…”

‘Hold up lololol’
‘Well yeah it was more showing your family home than a job lol’
‘I want more adventurer-like work too’

That’s it. Like in stories, taking a request off the board and going to gather medicinal herbs, I want something like that. If I’m doing this I want that.

“Can I take C-rank requests and such?”

When I ask Celis, she nods with no particular sign of worrying.

“Of course. Just, be careful not to take too much work from the lower-rank kids.”

In moderation, huh. I think that’s a natural consideration. I’m not short on money either, so I’ll pick leftover requests, maybe.

“Then I’m going… Is that okay?”
“Yes, of course. I look forward to working with you, Witch of Seclusion.”
“Thank you very much, Rita. I am based in this town, so if anything comes up please call anytime.”
“Mm.”

I wave a little and leave the room. Both of them smile and wave back. That makes me somehow happy.
I know it’s only that the encounter was lucky. There are probably lots of bad people too, and even Mireille must have plenty she hasn’t told me.
Even so, I was blessed with a really good meeting, and I am very lucky.

“Nnfuu.”

‘Rita-chan is in a good mood’
‘I’m glad Rita-chan looks like she’s having fun’
‘But next I want a more fun request’

So selfish. But, yeah. Next I’ll pick more adventurer-like work, maybe.
